Over the years, many companies and brands have come and gone.
Just having great ideas, technology, and designs is not enough to pave the way.
We believe that by moving people's hearts and being loved across generations, we will be able to reach a destination that seemed so far away.
The experience gained from traveling around the world from 1996 to today has brought us here.
Now I'm aiming for a new destination with more people.

1996~
17 year old boy and Incense
I feel that the joy of wearing and the joy of making are the happiness that all people share.
The original roots of THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ are the incense that a 17-year-old boy met in a small shop.
It all started when I disassembled one incense, which was rare and expensive at the time, researched and searched for raw materials, and made incense by myself.
A 17-year-old boy who was fascinated by finding and creating became an adult, traveled around the world, and developed a scent pop-up in New York that incorporates the essence obtained there.
Bringing back the experience he gained in New York to Japan, he started THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ in earnest in 2015.
In terms of just the founding, it would have been 2015, but the concept had already started from a chance encounter 25 years ago.

The experience of reliving a period of 25 years and giving shape to your imagination may bring you something new.
1997~
to collect
We are "creators" who create, but our roots are "collectors" and "selectors".
I love collecting nice things.
The things we create have a "story" to be told.
For example, 23 years ago, when I visited the Hotel Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
The moment I stepped into the entrance, I was greeted with a gorgeous yet somewhat shadowy scent that reached my nostrils.
The production of fragrance, which is now commonplace, was rare at the time, and the strong impression remains in my memory even now, and it vividly reminds me of the nostalgic streets of Las Vegas.
During my stay in Las Vegas, I bought clothes and perfumes that were not yet sold in Japan.
One piece of clothing and one piece of perfume are full of experiences and impressions that you want to share with someone.
The process and feeling of getting it is already part of the collection.
At that time, things that I didn't know what they would become were gathered, connected, and the current shape of THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ was completed.

It should have been a little boring.
The fact that so many people are enjoying our collection now is truly a blessing for collectors.

THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ started from one incense.
We have traveled the world to create what we have been imagining for the last 25 years.
Since 1996, I have visited over 40 cities in 10 countries.
THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ expresses the inspiration gained locally and the sense nurtured by the local people into their style.
The moment you open the store door.
Interior gimmick.
The meaning of the name attached to the scent.
A scene expressed by scent.
These feelings that cannot be expressed in words are scattered in every detail.
We chose to give form to our senses as our “work”, and this is the part that we are most good at.
This feeling, which cannot be put into words, can be understood in a single word by those who have experienced it.
Your roots know what that one word will sound like.
Traveling and experiencing things can teach us a lot.
You can't know just by "knowing".
Please try to experience the meaning of "feeling" by touching directly.
2016~
THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ FLAGSHIP STORE "OSAKA"
THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎'s style was created by overcoming many trials and errors and difficulties while having fun.
On April 1, 2016, the first store opened in Osaka with the image of "Bricktown" where I visited for my friend's wedding.
Old-fashioned bricks, neon signs, cracked mortar floors and Egyptian lamps.
The first store that combines nostalgia and modern sensibility is the icon of THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎.
Go find, grab, feel, and create chance encounters yourself.
Thanks to the sympathy of many people, we now have 9 stores across Japan.
As a flagship store, the Osaka store continues to create new scents today.
2018~
collaboration
I have had many encounters.
Encounters with friends who can enhance their individuality and taste have created new scents and products.
There are more than 50 kinds of collaboration products.
Each one of them has a story in which the creators collided with each other.
There are limited edition products that are no longer available, as well as scents that are still loved as long-sellers.
We will continue to announce such collaborations that express the existence of brands and artists from the angle of fragrance.

THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ STORE "TOKYO" opened on July 12, 2019, with an academic lab-like interior.
A metallic low counter in a pure white interior.
The neon sign is also unified in blue and white for a sophisticated design.
We have created a shop with a new essence so that customers outside the Kansai region can also enjoy our special scents.
I chose Nakameguro because the city is special.
For those who live in the city, it's time to spend a little time away from the usual hustle and bustle.
For those who visit Tokyo for sightseeing, spend a relaxing time in Tokyo.
In Tokyo, where new things are overflowing, we have launched a new yet old-fashioned THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ style.
A dignified look and a relaxed atmosphere.

2020~
THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ STORE "OKINAWA"
THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ STORE "OKINAWA" is a renovated 1900s foreign residence.
The scenery of simple, flat buildings with a nostalgic appearance is a location not found in mainland Japan.
A gimmicky neon tube is used for the shallow eaves that are typical of flat houses.
Everything from window louvers, floors, counters, and metal fittings are made to order.
A place where you can feel the local culture and lifestyle.
A place where Americans and Okinawan people have actually lived.
A place where new scent styles meet.
Our new store has become something that can only be expressed in Okinawa.
The setting sun that melts into the sea and the scent of the dense wind are just like Los Angeles or Hawaii.
Experience the atmosphere of a resort that matches mint green.
2021~
THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ STORE "KOBE"
RETRO BASE plus THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ STORE "KOBE" stands in a calm townscape.
A vivid blue x white flag was raised next to the 1960s building and vintage lamps.
The streets of Kobe, once touted as the Wall Street of the East, have a charm that makes you feel the changes of the times.
If you walk from the Kobe Ijinkan to the Kobe foreign settlement and Otsunaka-dori, you will feel as if you have slipped back in time.
No matter where you cut it, it's real retro, not retro.
If you open the door, you will see a brick wall that was the same as when the building was constructed.
At the back of the room is a trick art carved into an inorganic space.
Architectural craftsmen of the time and contemporary art are imbued with timeless study and respect.
At a high counter like a waiting bar, a dedicated staff will create a scent just for you.
Wearing an original atmosphere like Kobe.

THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎ STORE "KAMAKURA" is a fusion of Japanese culture and mid-century.
The scenery of Enoshima, which has been loved since the Edo period, and the streets where historic sites remain.
Our shop stands quietly in the slow flow of time.
Indigo blue, goodwill, lanterns.
American vintage furniture from the 1950s is lined up inside the store, which opens a solid door like a gallery.
The charm of the Kamakura store is that you can feel the scent and art with your whole body.
Doors and floors that connect the outside and inside, vivid art, and a variety of rich scents will color your trip.

It's not a perfume, it's not a room fragrance.
That is “Flavor Shake®︎” by THE FLAVOR DESIGN®︎.
In 2016, we released the world's first fully customizable fabric mist.
The combination and balance of scents, the name and color of the bottle.
Freedom of choice is something the 17-year-old boy has been chasing for a long time.
It has been 5 years since we opened a store in Osaka.
Until now, it has been popular with many people by calling it "make your favorite scent" or "DIY".
yes. This style never had a name.
Generally speaking, it is a scented product that can be used for fabrics, so it would be appropriate to just call it a fabric mist.
But we don't just sell products.
We needed a "name that encompasses everything" from the moment you enter the store to the ambiance, sensitivity to scents, and conversation.
